  • 2016 to 2019
Summary:

This project aims to implement an ex situ plant conservation program in regions of Portugal threatened by climate change and anthropogenic pressures, safeguarding native species against extinction. The project will focus on seed collection and ex situ conservation of 240 plant species, especially on endemic or rare species which have not been included in previous ex situ conservation programs. The project also supports research on comparative seed longevity under cold dry storage and seed responses to fire-related cues in Mediterranean species.
