cE3c participates at high level in the IUCN conference - Species Specialist Groups

Paulo A. V. Borges (IBBC-cE3c), Co-Chair of the  IUCN -Mid Atlantic Islands Invertebrate Specialist Group and or collaborator Pedro Cardoso, Chair of the IUCN Spider and Scorpion Specialist Group, are participating in the IUCN International Conference at Abu-Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) (12-19th September). 

During this conference IUCN officials will discuss the priorities for 2020 for the conservation of world biodiversity, namely:

-Priorities for Invertebrate Conservation (12-13 September)

-The World Heritage Convention

-CITES: the Road to Johannesburg and CoP 17

-Convention on Migratory Species

-Supporting implementation of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity and the Aichi Targets

-Understanding what SSC can contribute to the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES)

-Developing an IUCN situation analysis on marine by-catch

-Developing Wildlife For the Future to tackle illegal wildlife trade

-Mitigating the impacts of invasive alien species in freshwater ecosystems

-Combatting the unregulated use of poisons in Africa

-Achieving the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation (GSPC): strengthening IUCN SSC contributions on plant conservation

-Addressing the barriers to national Red List implementation

-Successful species conservation: taking the mystery out of planning

-The new IUCN standard for KBAS: what it means for Specialist Groups

-Defining a role for SSC in human-wildlife conflict

-Species monitoring: overcoming the challenges to collecting, sharing and using data

-A demonstration of tools available for Red List assessments

-Understanding how and why protected areas are effective in conserving species

-Assessing climate change vulnerability of species
