One Research Fellowship is open at the FCiências.ID – Associação para a Investigação e Desenvolvimento de Ciências, for the project MARGINS - People, rice and mangroves in the peripheries: Hybrid interfaces in contestation in a changing world, funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia.

The candidates may be of Portuguese or foreign nationality and must hold a degree in Biological Sciences or related areas, from a Portuguese or foreign university with a legally recognized academic degree in a Portuguese university.

Preference will be given to candidates with:

• Good teamwork and autonomous working skills.
• Availability and motivation to do field work, autonomously or in teams, in the study sites in Guinea-Bissau.
• Availability to do bibliographical research, data collection, organization and processing and writing of scientific publications.
• Willingness to pursue post-graduate studies at the Master's level, preferably at the University of Lisbon.
• Fluency in Portuguese and Guinea-Bissau Creole and ability to read and write in English is a preferential factor.

The research fellowship to be awarded aims to conduct a master's thesis based on the analysis of landscape dynamics in three locations in Guinea-Bissau in the north, center and south of the country. To this end, a multitemporal cartography of land cover will be made and data on vegetation structure and composition will be collected in the field.
The activities to be performed by the fellow include:
. Support to the accomplishment of the scientific tasks foreseen in the MARGINS project, namely, literature review, preparation of field work, data collection and analysis, support to report writing, presentation of scientific papers and participation in project meetings.
The scientific work includes:
1. Mapping of the vegetation at the three study sites based on interpretation of aerial photographs and very highresolution satellite images referring to three dates (1976, 1992-95 and 2021);
2. Vegetation study and soil sampling at the three study sites based on plots along land-sea transects;
3. Analysis and treatment of field data and research of information in bibliographical sources;
4. Writing of the Master's dissertation and preparation of scientific publications.
