Manuel Fernandez Urrutia is carrying out a Ph.D. in Agrarian Sciences (Specialty of Soil Science) in the Department of Agrarian Sciences at the University of the Azores. He is conducting a PhD project entitled “Development of remote sensing-based change detection techniques for applying in standard and specific land cover / land use scenarios”, under the supervision of Dr. Artur Gil (cE3c, Azorean Biodiversity Group, Department of Biology, University of the Azores) and Prof. João Madruga (CITA-A, Department of Agrarian Sciences, University of the Azores). Manuel Fernandez Urrutia is currently working as GIS consultant at the JRC - Joint Research Centre (European Commission in-house science service), in the IPSC - Institute for Protection and Security of the Citizen / Global Crisis and Security Management Unit.
