Inês Mendes has a degree in Biochemistry from the University of Coimbra (Faculty of Sciences and Technology), and is currently a student of the Master of Applied Microbiology at the University of Lisbon (Faculty of Sciences). Her MSc dissertion, under the supervision of Mónica V. Cunha, is devoted to the topic "Reconstructing transmission chains of commensal and zoonotic bacteria via multidisciplinary and cross-sectoral approaches", in which she uses a combination of phenotypic/genotypic tools and WGS to generate real-time genomic, epidemiological and ecological data from livestock, wildlife and environment in order to reconstructing transmission chains of commensal and zoonotic bacteria.
