Starting in September 2022, I am carrying out my master thesis under the supervision of Vitor Sousa within the Evolutionary Genomics and Bioinformatics group (cE3c). I will work with endemic Iberian freshwater fish (Squalius genus) populations to detect signatures of adaptation on the mitochondrial genome, by comparing species and populations inhabiting different environments. Also, I aim to understand whether signatures of adaptation of mtDNA of the allopolyploid hybrid complex, Squalius alburnoides, differ from other sympatric Squalius species found in similar thermal environments and potentially facing similar selective pressures.
