I received a Ph.D. in Landscape Architecturefrom the University of Greenwich in 2007 and I am currently collaborating with the Research Group eChanges of cE3c. I am a professor of Landscape and Nature Based Solutions at the University of Lisbon/Azores. My research focuses on nature-based solutions, urban agriculture / aquaponics, dry lands restoration and solutions for the global south

For many years I have been involved in restoration, urban food production, the urban heat island effect, green roofs and living walls research using as model system nature based solutions merging with technology.

 

My current research is driven by three overarching objectives: Finding solutions to real world problems such as: 1. reducing the urban heat island effect; 2. growing food in urban areas, providing for local markets,; and 3. restoration of terrstrial , riparian and marine habitats through large scale restoration techniques.
