Conservation in Socio-Ecological Systems - CSES

Ana Rita Caldas Patrício

Researcher

sea turtles population genetics fibropapillomatosis connectivity

I received a Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Exeter, UK, in 2017 and I am currently working in the Conservation in Socio-Ecological Systems - CSES of cE3c. My research focuses on sea turtle ecology, including spatial distribution and migrations, connectivity, foraging ecology, emerging diseases and climate change impacts.

From 2020 to 2023, I led a project on sea turtles to climate change impacts - TurtleResC - funded by the La Caixa Foundation through a Junior Leader Post-Doctoral Fellowship. It served as a continuum of my prior work initiated in Guinea-Bissau during the span of 2018-2020, a project that received funding from the MAVA Foundation.

I currently participate in research projects in Mauritania, Guinea-Bissau, Senegal and Príncipe, and co-supervise three PhD students. My main current project is 'Survies des tortues Marines' in West Africa, funded by the PRCM, and aiming to enhance knowledge on sea turtle status, ecology and distribution in the region.
