I received a Ph.D. in Marine Sciences, Technology and Management, from the University of Vigo in 2019 and I am currently working in the Island Biodiversity, Biogeography & Conservation (IBBC) from the cE3c. My research focuses on cetacean ecology and biology, cetacean monitoring, oceanography and habitat modelling.
For many years I have been involved in cetacean research, working mostly with opportunistic whale watching data in the Azores. In 2016, I have found the citizen-science project Sail & Whale, which aims to collect cetacean occurrence data mostly in high-seas, with the collaboration of sailors and other citizens, and which is still going nowadays.
My current research is driven by three overarching objectives: 1) understand ecology of cetaceans in the Azores; 2) analyse temporal variations in their distribution in relation with environmental variables; 3) explore and promote opportunistic cetacean data as a highly valuable tool for cetacean research.
