I received a Ph.D. in Sustainable Development, with emphasis on Environmental Policy and Management, from the University of Brasilia (Brazil) in 2011 and I am currently collaborating in the project “Field Guide: Designing Mobile Interactive Tools for Place-Based Learning” (ref. PTDC/CED-EDG/31182/2017), carried out in Terceira Island (Azores). I am a professor of Sustainability at the Federal University of Recôncavo da Bahia (Bahia - Brasil). My research focuses on sustainable development initiatives, sustainability education, environmental management, and social technology. Since 2009, I have been teaching topics related to sustainability. I have also been involved since 2014 in sustainability education research and environmental education extension activities at schools in Bahia (Brazil).
My current research is driven by three overarching objectives: 1) exploring pupils and students´ perceptions and preferences in environmental decision-making; 2) examining the benefits promoted by mindfulness activities for pupils´ and students´ learning and wellbeing; 3) identifying pupils and students’ interests on nature as starting points for place-based learning; and 4) assessing the efficacy of teaching strategies and activities for sustainability education and social engagement.
