I hold a Ph.D. in Ecology from the University of Extremadura (Spain, 2016), which focused on plant-herbivore interactions and population performance in a Tertiary relict tree species, Prunus lusitanica. I am currently working as a postdoctoral researcher (funded by the regional Government of Extremadura in Spain) within the Island Biodiversity, Biogeography and Conservation research group (IBBC) of CE3C.
My research interests fall within the fields of ecology, evolutionary biology and biodiversity conservation. Specifically, I am interested in understanding the determinants of geographical variation in different plant-animal interactions. This research builds on my Ph.D. work, as part of which I studied mainly biotic interactions at different spatial scales and from an evolutionary point of view. I am also interested in developing science-based solutions for biodiversity conservation, with a particular focus on agricultural systems. Since the completion of my Ph.D., I have worked on the impact of the EU's Common Agricultural Policy Greening scheme and its effect on biodiversity and ecosystem services <https://www.biogea-project.eu/>.
My current research work at CE3C will continue along this line of research, studying an essential ecosystem service such as pollination, that is currently being affected by multiple stressors. The project addresses the study of pollination networks in farmland systems across gradients of land use intensification. It aims to gain a better understanding of these networks' dynamics and to test the efficacy of sustainable agricultural practices, in order to maximize pollinator services and crop efficiency.
