FCUL Microscopy Facility: Not Just For The Small Stuff!

FCUL Microscopy Facility: Not Just For The Small Stuff!

Luís Marques (DEM-cE3c & BioISI)

The FCUL Microscopy Facility is a joint Ce3C / BioISI infrastructure, which has long supported both research and student training at FCUL. In this short talk we'll discuss some of the history of the Facility, recent updates, and take a "virtual tour" of installed capacity and equipment.

We'll also discuss how the latest developments in image acquisition and analysis provide biologists with sophisticated tools to 1) better understand the living world in the "micro", "meso", and "macro" scale, and 2) to improve and automate established protocols - with an emphasis on how this can benefit evolutionary and field biologists.

Finally, we'll present some recent work done at FCULMF in collaboration with Ce3C researchers, and discuss future prospects for the facility: its continuing role as a service provider for biological imaging and analysis for the FCUL community and beyond.
