The research group “Ecology of Environmental Change - eChanges” of cE3c is looking for students interested in applying for a PhD grant on the call announced by FCT - Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (1st-31st March 2021), who wish to submit a research proposal in line with the project “RENEWAL - Promoting the resilience of agroforestry systems in drylands to a more arid future ensuring ecosystem functions and services”.
The research group “Ecology of Environmental Change - eChanges” is a team at the Centre for Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Changes. We study the ecological patterns of ecosystems in a context of environmental change, from local to global scales. RENEWAL aims at the study of plant taxonomic, functional, and phylogenetic diversity, as indicators of resilience of key ecological functions in semi-arid agroforestry systems, at different spatial scales, and over time. The final goal of RENEWAL is to provide a practical tool to end-users and policy makers to promote the resilience of montado agroforestry systems to a more arid future with nature-based solutions, to ensure key ecosystem functions and services.
The project offers collaboration with an international team, requiring seasonal field work in Southern Portugal. We will give preference to candidates with experience in Plant and Functional Ecology. The details of the RENEWAL project proposal and the PhD research plan submitted to the FCT call will be discussed with the selected candidate. The grant pays a monthly net salary of 1074.64 EUR plus social security.
If you are interested in the topic, please send us an email (amanunes@fc.ul.pt and cmbranquinho@fc.ul.pt), including a short CV (2 pages max.) until 19 March 2021.
