One Special Regime Research Fellowship(s) (BIRE) for a Master is open at the FCiências.ID – Associação para a Investigação e Desenvolvimento de Ciências, for the project/R&D institution COMPCON: Competition under (niche) construction, GA 725419, financed by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 Programme (European Research Council, ERC), under the following conditions:
Scientific Area: Biology.
Requirements for admission: A recognized degree in Biology and experience in molecular biology.
Factors preferred: Although optional, preference will be given to candidates with experience in bioinformatics.
Work plan: The applicant will work under the supervision of Sara Magalhães, Flore Zélé and Vitor Sousa.
The tasks assigned to the fellows include:
a) Improving protocols for DNA extraction of spider mites to perform whole genome sequencing;
b) Process Next Generation Sequencing data with bioinformatic tools (quality filtering, mapping and genotype calling);
c) Perform genetic-related routine tasks (e.g. DNA extractions, diagnostic PCRs, etc.);
d) Assist the other members of the lab in their regular tasks (planting, spider-mite rearings and experiments).

Place of work: The work will be developed at the cE3c: Centre for Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Changes of Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa under the scientific guidance of Professor Sara Magalhães.
Fellowship duration: This position is initially open for 6 months and will begin in May, The fellowship contract may be renewed until the end date of the project COMPCON, in accordance with the provisions of Regulation of Research Fellowships from the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P.
Monthly allowance: The fellowship amounts to € 1200 according to table values of the fellowships awarded directly by the FCT, IP. (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores). The fellowship holder will have a personal accident insurance and, if not covered by any social protection scheme, can ensure the right to social security through adherence to the voluntary social insurance scheme, pursuant to Código dos Regimes Contributivos do Sistema Previdencial de Segurança Social. The fellowship will be paid monthly by bank transfer.
Selection method: Candidates will be assessed by the quality of their CV (40 %), the relevance of their experience (40%), and an interview (20%). Only candidates with ratings above 16/20 on the first two factors will be interviewed.
