Insights into early human migrations with modern and ancient genomic data

Ancient (and modern) DNA research have both recently entered the genomics era. In recent years, worldwide modern and ancient genomic data has allowed us to test archeological and paleoanthropological theories for the peopling of the world by anatomically modern humans. In this talk, we will review some recent population genomics results based that allowed us to characterize the out-of-Africa event as well as the peopling of the Americas, including genomic evidence for a potential transpacific contact. We will conclude by discussing the results of an outreach project that have allowed us to effectively communicate our scientific results within a year of a scientific publication to children and adults alike.
