Pedro Macedo is an activist researcher with training in the area of Planning and Sustainability. He has 20 years of experience in leading regional and local participatory sustainability projects in 50 communities, with NGOs, business, universities and governments. While in the Catholic University of Portugal he was one the founders of a Regional Centre of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development, in the Porto Metropolitan Area, recognized by the United Nations University.

He is conducting a Ph.D. in Climate Change and Sustainable Development Policies by the University of Lisbon and NOVA starting in 2016 within the CCIAM of cE3c. He is conducting the project MiT – Municipalities in Transition, under the supervision of Gil Penha-Lopes. The project aims are to study and promote synergies between citizen-led initiatives and local governments in terms of climate action. He is a Climate Reality Leader trained by Al Gore.
