Madalena is a MSc student in Conservation Biology on the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon. She will initiate her master thesis on “Quantification of the predation by different taxonomic groups within and out of bats and birds’ exclusion zones”. The project will be conducted on rice plantations in Guinea-Bissau, using fake caterpillars made from green plasticine placed on the plants’ leaves. The main aim is to identify the marks left on the caterpillars and attribute them to a taxonomic group of predators. The study will be performed under the supervision of Ricardo Rocha and Ana Rainho (cE3c, FCUL).
