I received a Ph.D. in Ecology from the University of the Azores (Portugal) in 2009 and I am currently working in the Island Biodiversity, Biogeography and Conservation research group (IBBC) of cE3c. For many years I have worked on Life History Evolution and Evolutionary Ecology using Coccinellidae (Ladybirds) as model taxonomic group. Besides the fundamental ground, I am interested also in a more applied aspect, studying ladybirds as potential biological control agents. Presently my main research focuses on biological invasions in an island context, using ladybirds as model species. A long-term collaboration with colleagues from the École Nationale de Formation Agronomique (University of Toulouse, France) has been maintained.Presently I am a participant of the European COST Action project “TD1209: ALIEN Challenge”.
My current research is driven by three overarching objectives: i) inventory of ladybird biodiversity in the Azores, ii) potential of ladybirds as biological control agents, and iii) invasibility of the Azorean habitats for invasive alien ladybird species.
I finished my Post-Doc contract recently, but I am keeping my collaboration with cE3c, particularly with my Azorean colleagues.
