David Mendes is a grant research holder within the project Ecological and Environmental studies (2021, 2022), under the supervision of Maria Alexandra Oliveira, and a MSc student under Helena Serrano supervision. David has experience in hardware and software development, applying innovative and cost-effective solutions to specific questions, with recent focus on environmental and agricultural challenges. His work with the cE3c is focused on the use of multispectral sensors and machine learning in the detection and monitoring of pollution in urban rivers and streams. In conjunction with this work, David has also been developing a system to access data in real time, based on NB-IoT technologies, to provide warnings of sudden changes detected in water parameters (pH, temperature, electrical conductivity, TDS, turbidity, reflectance in the visible an infrared electromagnetic spectrum).
