I am Science Public Information Officer at the Centre for Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Changes – cE3c since March 2016, where I prepare news and press releases, manage the center’s relationship with the media, manage our presence on social media and organize outreach events. I also support scientists in better communicating their science through brief training courses, of which I highlight the “Science and the media – bringing together scientists, journalists and society” cE3c Advanced Course, which already completed three editions.
I have a PhD in Physics (Evolutionary Game Theory and Network Science) by the University of Lisbon (2012) and a Master in Science Communication by the New University of Lisbon (2015). I am currently Vice-President of SciComPt – Portuguese Science and Technology Communication Network (2020-2023), which aims to map and highlight the work of science communicators in Portugal and contribute to form the identity of the science communicator in our country, in order to make the community, the professional area and science itself prosper.
I am co-founder of the Science Communicators Community of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (2019-present), which is aligned with one of the Faculty’s main missions – the dissemination of research carried out in different scientific areas – and within which we organize events such as periodic meetings with science communicators and training sessions for professors, researchers and students of Ciências ULisboa.
