Sandra Luque has a PhD in Geography, with specialization on Landscape Ecology, from The State University of New Jersey (USA) and a ‘Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches’ (HDR) from Grenoble I (France). Currently she is Research Director at National Research Institute of Science and Technology for Environment and Agriculture (IRSTEA), in France, and a Visiting Scholar at the Centre for Biological Diversity (CBD) School of Biology, University of St Andrews (Scotland, UK). Formerly she was a NASA Fellow on Global Change research (NASA Earth Observation Program, USA), a GIS/Remote Sensing expert for the Department for International Development (University of Wales, UK), a Research Fellow at Lucy Cavendish College Cambridge (University of Cambridge, UK), an invited Senior Research Scientist at METLA (Finnish Forest Research Institute, Helsinki, Finland). She further was Vice-president of the International Association for Landscape Ecology) and served FAO in the Expert Panel in support of the Evaluation of the CGIAR Research Program. At present, she is Coordinator for the IUFRO Working Party "Forest Landscape Ecology" and Deputy Coordinator for the “Forest Environment” Division, and an Expert for the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES). As a landscape ecologist, Sandra Luque interests cover a broad range of areas that include geography, ecology, global change (terrestrial ecosystems), landscape change dynamics, biodiversity indicators and conservation and management of natural resources, in particular forests. Her research focuses on spatial heterogeneity and landscape patterns implications for communities, and ecosystem processes Sandra Luque authored articles and book chapters on forest landscape ecology, remote sensing, temporal and spatial changes, conservation value and forest related services. Current interests expanded to interdisciplinary research that bridges the human dimension and its impacts on ecosystems and cross-cutting issues within the global change agenda and in relation to sustainable development concepts and tools.
