Following the discovery of two invasive populations of the African clawed frog, Xenopus laevis, in the streams that cross Oeiras County, a protocol was signed by the all the partners aiming first to control and then to eradicate this species. These are the only two established populations in the Iberian Peninsula; their eradication will contribute to build know-how on methodologies of eradication and assessment of invasive freshwater vertebrates. Furthermore, it will contribute for the conservation of endemic freshwater fishes and native amphibians.
