I received a Ph.D. in Evolutionary Biology from the University of Lisbon in 2012 and I am currently working in the Computational Biology and Population Genomics group of cE3c. My research focuses on the genomics of adaptation and speciation in natural populations of Mediterranean species.

My PhD project aimed to investigate the genetic basis of adaptation in ocellated lizards using the candidate gene Mc1r and looking for candidate loci under selection with an AFLP genome scan. Latter I used microsatellites for paternity assignment in Iberian rock lizards to determine fertilization success of competing males. I also generated genomic data (RAD-seq) to investigate introgression of commercial bumblebees introduced in Portuguese greenhouses with natural populations.

Presently I am working with Mediterranean cicadas of the genus Tettigettalna, which have similar morphology but distinct male calling songs to attract females. I am using traditional markers (mitochondrial and nuclear genes) and RAD-seq data to understand their evolutionary history.
