Climate Change Impacts, Adaptation and Modelling - CCIAM

External Collaborator

I received a Ph.D. in Climate Risk Management from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in 1994 and I am currently working at Wageningen Research in The Netherlands (Alterra) and collaborate with the Climate Change Impacts Adaptation and Modeling (CCIAM) group of cE3c. In 2013 and 2016 I actually worked in Lisbon for two periods of about 4 months each, in other years visiting for shorter periods. My current research focuses on climate change impacts and adaptation and climate services, mainly at the European level. Earlier I worked for organizations such as the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL), the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the European Environment Agency.  I collaborate with CCIAM in projects such as the European Topic Centre on Climate Change Adaptation, Impacts and Vulnerability, and the H2020 Coordination and Support Action PLACARD led by FCUL. I regularly contribute to the AMAC PhD course.

My current research is driven by three overarching objectives: to understand the barriers and enablers in translating knowledge about climate change into practical actions, to induce the private sector to be engaged in addressing climate change by providing relevant knowledge, and to integrate climate change response with other objectives such as disaster risk reduction.
