I received a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from Lancaster University in 2012. I am currently a post-doc researcher working in the Conservation Ecology research group (CE) and member of Ecology of Tropical and Mediterranean Bats and Birds subgroup of cE3c. My research focuses on the effects of human activities on biodiversity, using the the endemic-rich islands of São Tomé and Príncipe (central Africa) as a model system.
I am engaged with a multitude of researchers and institutions working in the island nation of São Tomé and Príncipe. Most of my current work is being developed in partnership with BirdLife International São Tomé and Príncipe Initiative. I am a member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature's World Commission on Protected Areas and Species Survival Commission, being part of the Bird Red List Authority and of the Stork, Ibis and Spoonbill Specialist Group.
My current research is driven by three overarching objectives: i) collect data on the distribution of species, ecosystems and human activities; ii) understand the direct and indirect impacts of human activities on biodiversity; iii) use São Tomé and Príncipe as a model system to understand the relationship between human activities and biodiversity in the context of global change.
