Raquel Barata

Senior Technician

I am a Biologist (1996) and received a Ph.D. in Psychology from the ISCTE – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa in 2014, about the factors contributing to pro-environmental attitudes and behaviours. I am currently working in the Plant, lichen and fungi systematics, biogeography and conservation genetics Subgroup of cE3c, within the goal for the development of non-formal and informal education on biodiversity conservation. I coordinate the communication and the education offices at the National Museum of Natural History and Science (MUHNAC) of the University of Lisbon, being responsible for the creation, management and delivery of MUHNAC educational projects (national and European). I also work as a mediator of inquiry-based activities at MUHNAC, particularly at the Botanic Garden, since 2003.

My current research includes the impact assessment of inquiry-based science education (IBSE) initiatives, applied to environmental education. I am author of oral presentations in national and international meetings and of peer-reviewed scientific publications in this field. I am also responsible for the formation of high school teachers about IBSE and a supervisor of university and master students in the same area.
