Patrícia Maria Nunes Tiago

Researcher

Biodiversity Databases Citizen Science Science Communication Socio-Ecology

I received a Ph.D. in Biology, speciality Biodiversity from the University of Lisboa in 2017 and I am currently in the working group of Conservation in Socio-Ecological Systems - CSES, subgroup of Socio-Ecological Research, of cE3c.

My research focuses on Citizen Science, Biodiversity Monitoring, Biodiversity Changes, Monitoring Schemes for Biodiversity, Science Communication.

For many years I have been working with citizen science databases, wanting to understand what motivations participants have to collaborate, how these projects can increase global biodiversity knowledge and how to improve the data collected. In 2009 I was part of a team that created a Portuguese biodiversity database - http://www.biodiversity4all.org. I am a founding member of European Citizen Science Association participating actively in the policy and BioBlitzes working groups of the same association.

I worked in environmental education and science dissemination in Lisbon Oceanarium and Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian.

My current research is driven by three overarching objectives: How can citizen science improve biodiversity monitoring? What are the main trends for biodiversity change? How can we increase the link between citizens and national biodiversity?
