Marc Fernandez Morron is conducting a Ph.D. in Cetacean Ecology at the 3rd Cycle in Biology (3CBIO) program of the University of the Azores, since 2012, within the Azorean Biodiversity Group of cE3c. He is conducting the project “Habitat suitability of oceanic cetaceans: Comparing presence only and presence/absence modelling”, under the supervision of José M.N.Azevedo from the Azorean Biodiversity Group, Chris Yesson from the Institute of Zoology/Zoological Society of London (ZSL) and Alexandre Gannier from Groupe de recherce sur les cétacés (GREC).
Marc’s Ph.D. project aims are: (i) to improve/analyze the existent methodologies of Ecological Niche Modelling for cetaceans; (ii) to understand and correct the bias associated with Whale Watching opportunistic data; and (iii) to propose new methods to obtain realiable estimates of cetaceans distributions.
