Climate Change Impacts, Adaptation and Modelling - CCIAM

João Pedro Nunes

I received a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from the New University of Lisbon in 2008 and I am currently working with the Climate Change Impacts, Adaptation and Modeling Research Group of cE3c, under a contract supported by the FCT IF program. I am also a guest researcher at the Wageningen University in the Netherlands. My research focuses on the impacts of climatic variability on agriculture, forests and water resources.

Recently I have been involved in the coordination team of several European and national research projects on climate change impact assessment, such as MASCC: Mediterranean Agricultural Soils Conservation under global Change; GestAqua.AdaPT: Adapting Reservoir Management Strategies to Climate Change in Alentejo; or ERLAND: Direct and indirect impacts of climate change on soil erosion and land degradation in Mediterranean watersheds. I am also in the coordinating committee of COST Action CONNECTEUR: Connecting European connectivity research.

My current research is driven by three major goals: i) assessing the response of socio-hydrological systems to climatic variability in the Mediterranean; ii) evaluating the eco-hydrological response of forested landscapes to fire disturbances; and iii) developing new methodologies to simulate hydrological systems adapted to Mediterranean conditions.
