Metals Stable isotopes Mercury Mangrove Estuaries

Prof. Dr. Carlos Eduardo de Rezende (Leader of the Research Group in Aquatic Biogeochemistry): is a Full Professor at Ecology and Applied Ecology of the Biosciences and Biotechnology Center at the Universidade Estadual do Norte Flumense Darcy Ribeiro (UENF). Prof. Dr. Rezende is a senior researcher from the Brazilian National Council for Science and Technology (CNPq) (Level 1B), State Scientist from the Rio de Janeiro state Foundation for Science Development (FAPERJ) and coordinator of the Future Earth Coasts for South America.  Prof. Dr. Rezende professional experience includes studies on the dynamics of organic matter, using molecular and isotopic markers, and trace elements aquatic environments (e.g.: rivers, lakes), terrestrial (e.g.: tropical forests and crops), coastal ecosystems (e.g., estuaries, mangroves and lagoons) and ocean from the shelf to continental margin. On these topics, Prof. Dr. Rezende has published 157 peer-reviewed papers, 1 book, 13 book chapters. Prof. Dr. Rezende has advised 23 doctoral Thesis, 23 Master´s Dissertation and supervised 14 post-doctoral projects and several capstone papers for undergraduate students (monographs). Prof.  Dr. Rezende has coordinated projects and participated in national and international committees, including 10 years as chair of international exchanges projects of students of Biological Sciences, Oceanography and Social Sciences funded by FIPSE and CAPES. Prof. Dr. Rezende was an Associate Professor at two American universities (Washington and Lee University, Fairfield University).  At UENF, Prof. Dr. Rezende held various institutional leadership roles (e.g., Vice-Rector, Dean of Undergraduate Studies, Center Director and Head of Environmental Sciences Laboratory), and he has participated in several boards and councils in National and International levels. Actually, Prof. Dr. Rezende is conducting studies on Hg and inorganic geochemical supports (e.g. .: Al, Fe, Mn, carbonate) and organic (e.g. elemental and isotopic composition d13C and d15N) as well as their ecosystem interactions; use of molecular biomarkers (e.g., lignin phenols, black carbon) as geochemical tools to enhance the understanding on the alterations of biogeochemical cycles in the transition between terrestrial and aquatic environments.
